"Protecting the Emperor." Gu Yuan answered frankly, though possessive desire that allowed no dissent surged in his eyes. "Your subject is simply... protecting you a little too thoroughly."
Only later did Shen Jin discover that every world was the same.
In the cultivation world, he was a cool and aloof Sword Venerable, while Gu Yuan was a demon-fallen Dao Ancestor. To suppress the demonic parasite, Shen Jin was "invited" to rest in the Demon Palace, where he stayed for three whole months.
In the apocalypse, he was the leader of humanity, while Gu Yuan was the king of the mutants. To quarantine him from the virus, Shen Jin was "settled" in the heart of the nest, personally watched over by the king every day.
In the Western fantasy world, he was the Holy Lord of Light, while Gu Yuan was the Dragon Lord of Darkness. To cleanse him of a curse, Shen Jin was "protected" deep in the dragon's lair, sleeping on a bed piled high with gold coins.
Shen Jin: "...Do you have some misunderstanding about what 'protecting the Emperor' means?"
Gu Yuan: "Your Majesty governs the realm, so naturally I must govern... and protect Your Majesty."
The main focus is the romance between the top and the bottom. Plot and romance are equally important. Both are powerful; enemies become lovers.
In every world, the bottom is the ruler or leader of a faction, tasked with building a harmonious society. The top is an aide who restricts the bottom's freedom out of a desire to protect or heal him, or because of a misunderstanding. In essence, he is protecting him.
Theme: Mercy is the strong showing tenderness toward all living things.
