Introduction to the work "Shui Jing Ci"
There is always some water in the city, and the reflected things are wrong.
Another street is reflected in the puddle, you move slowly in the mirror, and a glass of still water reflects a window you don't recognize. If you touch that water, you'll fall in - into a space that is exactly like reality but all misaligned. People there don't speak first, the water there is always warm, and the lights there don't cast a shadow. If you stay too long, you will be replaced by a copy that cannot dream, and you will become the next mirror.
Chi Yan knows this because he has been in there thirteen times.
He was looking for a person who squatted in front of a puddle in the market a year ago, looked at the water and never came back. That person's name is Ji Mingzhu. Chi Yan can see him every time he goes in - he will smile at Chi Yan and respond to what Chi Yan says, but every word he says is Chi Yan's last sentence. Like an echo.
Chi Yan knew it wasn't him. The real one will smile before speaking, then speak after laughing, with the corners of his mouth already raised. This won't happen. This one will just wait.
But he still goes every time. He did not believe that a living person could become an echo without a subject.
The thirteenth time it was still the same. For the fourteenth time, that Ji Mingzhu spoke before he spoke.
He said: "Chi Yan, you have lost weight."
Outside the water, the half glass of water on the windowsill was a little short.
