Jinnian is a bar you won't find on any map. The owner, Jiuyue, has a pair of eyes so black they gleam, and she sees through the lies and disguises in every story. She tells me that karma is the only ironclad law of this world, and no living being can escape it. Time has no meaning here, and the visitors have no warmth. Carrying their own unfinished obsessions, they tell their stories beneath the dim yellow lights. And I am the odd-job worker here, a listener stranded in this place because I cannot break free of the cycle of karma.
