After Being Cast into Hell

They say that when people die with too strong an attachment, they have to go to hell. Only after passing through several levels of purgatory and washing away their attachments can they be reborn.

Ji Shuxian is dead. As a minor actress who never quite made it big, she had finally landed a leading role, only to die before she could even attend the film festival.

Well, dead is dead.

She looks at the tall, handsome judge beside her, then at the flower fields swaying before her, and nods with satisfaction. "As expected, even in death, someone like me is bound for heaven."

But the next second, a stinking gale rushes at her. A bloody heart sprouts from the flowers, and a blood mist shrouds the blue sky.

"You were wrong," Sui Jian says, his eyes smiling even as he delivers the cruelest verdict. "This is hell."

Flames burn across a dark lake. Nothing grows around them, and the scorching heat feels as if it will melt the soul.

Ji Shuxian stares at the lake of fire, her legs going weak. She tugs on Sui Jian's clothes, trying to plead her case. "What attachment could I possibly have? My biggest attachment is that I haven't tried the new restaurant yet! I've never even had the heart to step on an ant, let alone committed any sins! There must be some mistake!"

Sui Jian has seen countless people plead in fear before the lake of fire. An attachment isn't something you can simply claim not to have. So he doesn't think too much of it and prepares to push her in.

But an accident pulls him into the lake of fire, too.

When the karmic consequences that should have belonged to Ji Shuxian fall upon him, Sui Jian suddenly feels that maybe she really wasn't lying.
