Princess Fuxi of Chu suddenly came down with a strange illness overnight. Even the finest doctors could do nothing for her, and she was wasting away, with little time left to live.
Then a Daoist saw blood-red lines that had appeared on her body and revealed the truth.
A curse placed on the Chu dynasty a hundred years ago had returned to the world.
The only way to break it lay with a descendant of the one who had cast the curse.
But that descendant was none other than Qu Ciyu, the Grand Priest of Chu, revered by countless people and considered untouchable.
To force the Grand Priest to treat his beloved daughter, the King of Chu had no choice but to use the person Qu Ciyu loved as leverage.
Though Qu Ciyu was proud and unyielding, he had no choice but to submit for the sake of the one he loved.
Knowing Qu Ciyu was being forced into it, Fuxi said guiltily, "Don't worry. You're my benefactor. Once I'm well, I'll make Father release her. I absolutely won't pester you, either."
But Qu Ciyu never once looked at her from beginning to end.
To him, she was no different from the King of Chu.
All he had to do was break the curse and then have nothing more to do with her.
According to the Daoist's instructions for breaking the curse:
For the first seven days, the curse bearer must soothe the parasite by stroking it by hand.
For the next seven days, the curse bearer must provide three kinds of bodily fluids.
For the final fifteen days, the host and parasite must unite for the ritual to be complete...
At first, Qu Ciyu hated the King's coercion and felt little fondness for the princess.
But gradually, Qu Ciyu realized...
Whenever things reached their climax, he was always the first to lose control.
One night, his gaze hazy, he looked at her flushed cheeks. His heart softened, and he kissed her again and again before asking hoarsely, "Have you gotten your strength back?"
