Jiang Duchuan is the perfect older brother in everyone's eyes.
Ying Shi knows he's her sun, shining only on her.
When someone asks for his contact information, he turns to her for permission. When she says yes, he gets upset instead.
When her piano lessons require her to live at school, he simply rents a place nearby, saying this is where their home should be.
She asks why he's so good to her. He looks at her.
"Because the sun doesn't shine on itself."
He catches her saying goodbye to her boyfriend downstairs. As soon as the door closes, he pins her against it.
"Where did he touch you? Big Brother will wipe it away."
Terrified, she says she'll move back to the dorm. He kneels on the broken glass and looks up at her with a smile.
"Big Brother was wrong. I was wrong not to let Ying Shi know sooner that you can't get away."
.
When her boyfriend breaks up with her, Ying Shi doesn't try to stop him.
It isn't until she goes looking for sheet music in Jiang Duchuan's study that a voice recorder in a drawer starts playing on its own:
"Break up with her. I'll pay for your studies abroad. Don't let her see you again."
So all those times they were "incompatible," it was his decision all along.
In the shadows of the study, his phone lights up at just the right moment:
[She submitted an application to study abroad. Should I stop her?]
.
When she was little, she told him he was the brightest sun in the whole world.
Only later did she realize that the sun never sets. It only slips out from beneath her skirt and slowly lifts its face.
"Ying Shi, your sun is out."
