The male and female leads are childhood friends who grew up together, innocent and inseparable, living next door to each other. They attended the same school from kindergarten through high school, and both got into No. 1 High School, where they were placed in the experimental class. Shi Pu has always been arrogant and sharp-tongued, but he has started to feel something different for Zhu Man. He just hasn't realized it himself.
Zhu Man loves reading novels: mysteries, crime procedurals, school stories, and more. During an evening study session, she pulled out the novel Human Experiment Plan, which she'd bought from a stall outside the school gate. After class, Shi Pu spotted it and snatched it away. Zhu Man chased after him to get it back, and when she caught up with him at a corner, the moment she touched the book, the two of them transmigrated into another world.
One became Zhu Man, a memory editor; the other became a virtual reality designer. Virtual reality designers build immersive worlds, which can be perfect utopias or carefully laid traps. They manipulate code like gods of the digital realm. Memory editors are specialists working at the intersection of psychology, art, and technology. They are not mere memory modifiers, but more like architects of the mind or healers of psychological trauma. After learning about this new world through the System, the two began doing their best to pass as the people whose identities they had taken over and investigate the conglomerate. During their investigation, they encountered people who had been modified beyond recognition, anomalous entities in data spaces, and mutated monsters spawned by capital. Only then did they discover the dark side of this second world.
