Also known as My Physical Therapy Job at the Psychiatric Hospital, this is the story of a music-loving girl who grows into a queen of the stage in a foreign country.
A note before you read: An unserious story about an overseas student. Some place names are entirely fictional, so please don’t nitpick. Ensemble cast + everyday life + slow burn. The heroine starts out as a fragile little flower and becomes a queen; the hero seems normal at first and later recovers. There aren’t many heartbreaking scenes, so enjoy without worry!
Jian Yi, 22, newly diagnosed with social anxiety and a seasoned people-pleaser. Her three greatest skills: blushing, apologizing, and having her brain short-circuit.
After a breakup with a manipulative ex and a stage accident, she flies to Country A to study abroad by herself and moves into a residence where, supposedly, everyone has a wonderfully unhinged state of mind.
But on her very first day, she suffers a social disaster. She meets a handsome, cold-faced guy in the elevator, and her heart rate shoots up to 180. The problem is, he lives next door, and he thinks she’s a stalker!!!
He knocks on her door and sneers, “Miss, if you want to spy on me again, I’ll install a peephole in your door next time.”
Jian Yi: …Just let me die!
The good news: the misunderstanding is cleared up. His private message consists of just one sentence: “The landlord told me to apologize to you.” The bad news: the young heiress loves to watch the drama unfold. “You want to hit on him? Then go ahead.”
Jian Yi: ??? I don’t!!!
But the heiress locks them into it: “You’re riding to school with him tomorrow.”
And so the conversation goes
Logan: “So you’re not blushing because you’re hot.”
Jian Yi: “…It’s the sun.”
Logan: “You should see a dermatologist sometime. You’re probably allergic to UV rays.”
Jian Yi: “…I’m not allergic to UV rays.”
Logan smiled. “Yeah, I know.”
Know what, exactly?
She thought he only had four identities: a genius neurosurgeon who graduated from the same university, an unpredictable, hard-to-approach neighbor with a chaotic schedule, an aloof, poker-faced guy who only ever replied “Mm” in the group chat, and a poker god who dominated every card game.
But later she discovered he was also a little neurotic.
So during a game of Truth or Dare, she stared defiantly into his beautiful green eyes and said
“Logan, you’re sexy.”
The room went silent.
His lashes hid the emotions in his eyes. He chuckled softly. “Okay.”
Just… okay???
Later, she rekindles her dream of making music and becomes a cold-faced queen who dominates the stage. Under the spotlights, she wears a camisole dress and dramatic winged eyeliner, leaving everyone in the audience staring like fools.
She thought she could navigate love just as smoothly, warming up a thousand-year-old iceberg with the warmth of her passion. But after hearing her out, he doesn’t even twitch an eyebrow.
Logan: “Did I ask you to?”
Jian Yi: …Fine. You win.
So Jian Yi breaks up with him. She sincerely tells him, “We’re not right for each other.” Logan is silent for a long moment, then replies, “I understand.” He doesn’t ask why or try to stop her.
She thinks that’s the end of it.
Until later, when she pieces together the truth from her friends and discovers that he has a severe emotional disorder.
You insist on acting tough and saying nothing, huh? You get jealous but refuse to admit it, huh? You sit at the bar in the middle of the night and make snide remarks to me, huh?
Fine. You brought this on yourself.
Then you can learn about love slowly, right alongside me.
