Five years ago, all Gu Cining left Xie Wantang were six words: "I had no choice. Don't wait."
Five years later, when they meet again, Xie Wantang is an associate editor at a publishing house, while Gu Cining joins as an intern, carrying an old bookmark.
Xie Wantang thought time could smooth everything over, but on a rainy night when Gu Cining curled up with a high fever, she realized she'd never escaped that storm. She comes closer, and Gu Cining pulls away. Gu Cining has kept the bookmark with her all along, but never found the courage to give it to her.
Then, one autumn afternoon, they return to the swing set behind their old university. Gu Cining rests her head on Xie Wantang's shoulder and speaks softly:
"This time, I'm not afraid of anything. I'm only afraid of making you wait again."
