The Ghost King is about to rise, but what does that have to do with Li Daoping? She's just a novice Daoist.
Her master said, "I've calculated that at nineteen, you'll face a bodily calamity that will surely kill you. The Ghost King is about to emerge. If you go and slay it, you may be able to avert that calamity. Your senior uncle, who is far away at the Heavenly Dao Palace, will help you."
And so Li Daoping set out on the path of ghost slaying.
The formation to destroy the Ghost King still lacked an anchor. Fortune smiled on her, bringing her to Yan An, a corpse demon with a powerful soul and the perfect choice to serve as the anchor.
Thus, Li Daoping formed a Bond of Shared Hearts with him. The two would stand together, of one heart, until death.
Yan An thought he was terribly unlucky. As a corpse demon, he had no memories and no one he knew. He had only just awakened from a long sleep when a Daoist tricked him.
The Daoist was very good at sweet-talking.
"You have to stay with me."
"Humans and ghosts belong to different worlds, yet we met in the mortal realm. Isn't that fate bringing us together?"
He knew she wanted something from him, but when Li Daoping said she was going to destroy the Ghost King, he actually wanted to help her.
