Skinning

Entomologist x forensic pathologist

Both reborn, sharing one body and two souls

Dizzy and disoriented, Mu Baijie opened his eyes and looked to the right.

A woman lay there, eyes closed. Her hair had been carefully arranged to look like it was fluttering, and even her pose suggested flight. The blood beneath her looked just like a butterfly spreading its wings.

Feeling a dull ache in the back of his head, Mu Baijie braced himself against the ground and tried to stand.

But when he moved his hand, he discovered he was clutching a butterfly.

The next second, he heard the door being kicked open.

His memories were gone, and he was caught up in a murder case.

Mu Baijie had never felt so unlucky, but that wasn't even the worst of it.

The worst part was that something was wrong with his brain.

The voice in his head said, "The deceased is a 28-year-old woman. She died of suffocation, and a patch of skin is missing from her back. You came here to buy a butterfly specimen from her."

Mu Baijie knew nothing about specimens. All he knew was that he'd been arrested.

The charge: suspected intentional murder.

The voice in his head was noisy. It had even given itself a name:

Qi Jueguang.

Qi Jueguang said he was a forensic pathologist and knew what he was talking about.

Qi Jueguang told Mu Baijie to trust him, because he was the one who had his memories.

Mu Baijie didn't know what any of that meant. All he knew was that he was starving to death, and he didn't have time to figure out whatever nonsense his auditory hallucinations were going on about.

Then Mu Baijie really did meet a forensic pathologist, who was also called Qi Jueguang.

As he looked at this forensic pathologist, who clearly despised him and seemed like he wanted to grind him into the floor, the voice in his head suddenly spoke again.

"Ask him to let you use his bank card," the hallucination said. "He really likes you, so don't worry."

Yeah, right. Mu Baijie cursed inwardly. Damn this world. I really am fucking crazy.
