Berlin, 1946. A tin file box confiscated from a war criminal contains a fragmentary diary in Chinese, a sealed red bean, and several war records.
In the war-torn 1940s, Lin Yuanzhi and Su Ya, two young Chinese people, are stranded in Berlin after diplomatic relations are severed. A red bean and a small room shadowed by air raids sustain the gentle daily life they share, finding comfort in each other in a foreign land. A strange SS captain suddenly enters their lives, drawing ever closer and watching them. A story of unspoken feelings, lies, and secrets, hidden amid ruins and snowstorms, slowly unfolds.
War crushes their way home. Snow falls year after year in a foreign land, and the longing entrusted to the red bean is ultimately buried in Berlin's broken streets. As an archivist reads through layers of written records, a tragic tale, disguised in words that blur truth and falsehood and forever frozen beneath a sky full of snow, gradually comes to light.
Theme: Anti-war.
