Sui Liushui is an alien. Since his home planet is planning to attack Earth, he’s sent down to the planet. But there’s a glitch in the deployment program, and he accidentally ends up in the cultivation world instead.
On his first day in the cultivation world, an old man picks him up and takes him back to his hideout, a place called Wuji Sect. The old man wants to recruit him, and Sui Liushui agrees so he can infiltrate the enemy’s ranks.
Sui Liushui doesn’t understand cultivation. He just copies what he sees, and even then, he can’t get it quite right.
The senior sister teaches him to use a whip. He blinks, swings his hair around, and shears off half a mountain.
The second senior brother teaches him explosive magic. He wiggles his antennae and blows up an entire fishpond out of nowhere.
The third senior brother teaches him weapon forging. He pulls out one of his own bones and smashes a five-thousand-jin granite boulder with it.
Everyone at Wuji Sect: “...?”
Sect Master! Do you know there’s a ghost in the house?!
But once he’s joined the sect, he’s family. The people of Wuji Sect grit their teeth and protect their strange little junior brother.
And so Sui Liushui spends years running wild in the cultivation world without ever revealing who he is. The attack on Earth is just around the corner.
There’s just one thing that really bothers him...
On his first night at the sect, Sui Liushui changes back into his alien form and wanders around under cover of darkness. He runs straight into the legendary cold-faced King of Hell, Luo Bugou.
Terrified, he immediately transforms into a human, and that’s how Sui Liushui’s biggest secret comes out.
The good news: Luo Bugou won’t kill him anymore.
The bad news: Luo Bugou just won’t kill him for now.
Sui Liushui knows full well that the wise know how to adapt. Every day, after finishing his cultivation and gathering intelligence on the enemy, he makes time to suck up to Luo Bugou.
But the more he tries to win him over, the more he seems to overdo it... and now Luo Bugou chases him every day, demanding they make their relationship official.
Sui Liushui screams and runs away: “An alien and a human falling in love can only end badly!!”
Luo Bugou comes from a distinguished family. He began cultivating qi at six, built his foundation at nine, formed his golden core at thirteen, and reached the nascent soul stage at seventeen. He’s a genius through and through.
Geniuses don’t understand people, and he’s so hidebound that if you’re a demon, good or bad, he’ll strike first and ask questions later!
But Sui Liushui is different. He’s an idiot.
Luo Bugou watches as Sui Liushui transforms into a human in front of him. Strands of pink hair fall over his shoulders, covering his naked body.
“Wh-why aren’t you wearing clothes?!” Luo Bugou scolds him, blushing as he turns away.
The moment Luo Bugou turns around, Sui Liushui makes a run for it. But he doesn’t get two meters before stepping on his own hair, tripping, and landing flat on his face.
Luo Bugou: “...”
Unable to stand watching any longer, he takes off his outer robe and tosses it to Sui Liushui. “I’ll let it go this time. But the next time we meet, I’ll kill you.”
The next time they meet, Sui Liushui, who can’t read, gets tricked by a crooked shopkeeper into signing a contract of indenture. When Luo Bugou comes with his sword to claim him, Sui Liushui is still busy helping the shopkeeper with the accounts.
The next time after that, Sui Liushui nearly transforms back into his true form in public. And the time after that...
Sui Liushui really is an idiot, Luo Bugou thinks. So he’d better keep him by his side and watch him closely from now on.
