Qicao has done her best to hide the fact that she can see yokai. She doesn't want to attract attention or be shut out by humans. All she's ever wanted is a peaceful life.
Summer in Nagano Prefecture is always rainy and hard to endure. The departures of Jingguang and Yamamura Misao, one after the other, once again leave Qicao alone.
Then, while fleeing after being badly injured by a back-handed snake she had crushed to death, she encounters Zi, a bone snake on the verge of disappearing.
"What's your name?"
"Shechuan, Shechuan Qicao."
The price of borrowing the bone snake's power is exchanging her left eye. From then on, the great yokai named [Zi] stays by her side.
Qicao had thought she could finally live a peaceful life. Then she enrolls at the private Juyuan High School and meets Kimihiro Watanuki, who can also see yokai.
It seems that good luck is finally coming her way...
The story touches on some concepts from Mushishi. Since some of these conflict with the world of Natsume's Book of Friends, the latter serves as the main setting. Feel free to ignore or gloss over anything that doesn't make sense; it won't affect your enjoyment.
