Lin An was an abandoned monster, born intersex.
An old woman who lived by the sea found him and gave him a life.
But misfortune followed close on the heels of good fortune. After just six years, Lin An's happiness was cruelly taken from him.
A tsunami struck. The old woman suffered a head injury while protecting Lin An, and died of her wounds.

The people in the fishing village pitied Lin An for suffering such a misfortune at so young an age. Families helped one another, and life went on day by day.
The following year, the villagers pooled their money to send Lin An to school.

But the days of suffering were too hard to bear. Lin An was like the whale that sings at a frequency of 52 hertz, unable to get a response from the sea of people around him.
Then, in the first semester of his second year of high school, a transfer student named Jiang Yu entered Lin An's world.
Jiang Yu was an outsider too. He stood up to Lin An's bullies and showed him kindness. At last, the lonely whale had found another voice on the same wavelength.
They stayed by each other's side and helped each other heal.
Two years later, Lin An and Jiang Yu emerged from their isolation together and were accepted into top universities.
Jiang Yu took Lin An to see a psychologist and helped him slowly find his voice again. After graduation, he accompanied Lin An back to the fishing village to repay the villagers' kindness.
Lin An picked up the old woman's traditional craft, while Jiang Yu helped the village children prepare for school.
Lin An was no longer mute, but he remained shy and withdrawn. Now, however, he had all the love Jiang Yu could give him.
The two outsiders made a world of their own and told their story to the sea.
