In my headcanon, even after they grow up, their Guardian Characters are still with them [looks away].
That summer, after Nikaidou was defeated, Nadeshiko left to study in Europe, and Kukai graduated, Tadase Hotori hatched a second Guardian Character. An unfamiliar family crest was engraved on the orange-red egg. Then Tsuna was born.

He stayed by Tadase and the others through many events. After they finally defeated Easter, he returned to his egg.
