Chang Ruyi has been slow to catch on ever since she was little.
She started talking later than all the other children, walked slowly, was bad at sports, fell behind in school, and often couldn't concentrate.
Her mother took her for an IQ test. The doctor said, "There's nothing wrong with her intelligence. She's just a little slow to react."
Her mother asked, "So when will she catch on?"
The doctor said, "Give it time."
And time passed until she was twenty-one.
During a job interview, she suddenly discovered that she had a superpower.
The good news: it was mind-reading!
The bad news: it made her blurt out what other people were thinking, turning her into a walking source of social embarrassment.
Worse still, while job hunting with only a junior-college-to-bachelor's degree, she got put through the wringer and ran into all kinds of bizarre situations.
During interviews, she might fall into an infinite-loop workplace dungeon, have to make life-or-death choices about popularity alongside influencers, or, worst of all, get trapped in a flop web novel and forced to do mortifying cosplay.
The worst news of all: her teammates were a bunch of superpowered people who were "the harder they tried, the unluckier they got."
From then on, her life began an extreme leap from "dying of embarrassment" to "saving the world."
Navigation apps refuse to give directions, elevators eat people, printers make her run, and KPIs turn into monsters that hunt her. The only ones who can defeat them are a group of superpowered people with "bad luck physiques."
One moment she's at a job interview, and the next she's switched into teammate-rescue mode.
Please, all she wants is to find a job. Why is that so hard?!
[Reading Guide]
1. This is not a romance novel. It has an episodic structure with different dungeons, as well as a central storyline focused on completing missions. There are couples, but romance will not play a big role early on.
2. The worldbuilding is fairly expansive, so I'll make sure I have enough chapters saved up before I start posting. If you like this style, feel free to bookmark it.
3. This is an ensemble story. All the superpowered characters have a golden finger, but each one comes at a cost. No one is invincible.
Theme: Just how unlucky do you have to be to end up with a whole group of unlucky people?
