Qianqiu's memories are wrong. They have always been wrong.
She had been dead for a long time, yet she experienced the real world as if she were alive.
The Ninefold Mirror is not merely a device for taking lives, as it appears on the surface.
A powerful figure found her as a child in this world, and she became the young heir of the Right General's household. But her arrival was never concealed. She was born into this world out of thin air, floating in midair, and two people witnessed it with their own eyes.
She became a target everyone fought over, even one they were willing to kill for. Everyone wanted to know the secret behind her existence.
Later, she betrayed the rules of her life of aristocratic luxury. Even starting life over could not destroy what she had been born with: perhaps cruelty, perhaps compassion.
“My body is gone, but my spirit still exists.” Qianqiu opened her hand. Behind her stretched an abyss, and she fell backward with graceful ease. The fierce canyon wind billowed her sleeves, and a faint light seemed to embrace the place where she would be buried.
The history books recorded: “The coup was perilous. Qianqiu, daughter of the Right General's young heir, fell from a cliff and vanished without a trace. Born to wealth and died in poverty.” That was the scant verdict history passed on her.
Yet the trees broke her fall, and she did not die at once. In her consciousness, she only felt as if she were traveling through different worlds.
She appeared out of thin air, then vanished just as mysteriously. This world was also another world. She had not begun here, nor would she end here. It was only her consciousness that had settled here. She had memories and experiences only of this place, and she considered it her homeland. She would risk her life to return.
A new world,
A frail child in tattered clothes told her, “You belong here. We beg for food together.”
A tall, fierce adult punched her. “You're one of the Gao family. Don't even think about escaping.”
A spaceship in the drizzle sank into the deep blue night. The loudspeakers played “The Natural Food Abolition Act.”
Qianqiu opened her eyes, but she had not returned to her “homeland.” A flash of light glittered across the cool silver ceiling. Just after waking, she blurted out, “Mom, why did you buy another one of these useless, fancy storage units?”
Qianqiu jolted upright. “Who am I? Where am I? What am I supposed to do?”
