Gu Jiuxia is a Gongsun Li specialist on the national server. When her younger sister suddenly got into Honor of Kings and got stuck in Diamond rank, unable to climb any higher, Gu Jiuxia stepped in to help.
But the other team had a Yuanliuzi marksman! Gu Jiuxia warned her teammates to watch out for the Yuan marksman during the pick-and-ban phase, but the local Diamond players clearly had no idea how overpowered it was. One after another, they fed kills in the bottom lane, and by the late game they had become walking ATMs for the enemy's Yuan marksman.
She pushed the System's guaranteed-loss match all the way to the 30-minute mark, but still lost in the end.
She could tell that the other player was definitely around her own rank.
So she switched to her own account and angrily sent them a friend request.
The other player didn't accept. Just as she was growing impatient waiting, another account sent her a request: This is my main account.
Gu Jiuxia took one look and recognized the national-level Yuan marksman from a top 10,000 Peak Tournament match she'd played a couple of days earlier. She remembered winning that match, too.
How on earth had they ended up in the same Diamond match, and how had she had the misfortune to lose? This was outrageous!
-
Much later.
Gu Jiuxia sat up in bed and finally said what she'd been wanting to say for ages: "You're too much! This is outrageous!"
Lin Rufeng, her Yuan marksman big sister, ignored her accusation, gently carried her to the bathroom, and turned on the tap. The sound of running water blended with the rain outside.
In summer, this city was in the rainy season, and it was always raining. That was perfectly normal.
The rain stopped.
Most people would be going to sleep by then, but Lin Rufeng pulled out her phone from the bedside table. "Quick, open Honor of Kings. I'll play roaming support. Let's see if we get matched together if we hit the Peak Tournament queue button at the same time. If we do, I'll play Shao Siyuan support for you."
"Can we really get matched together?"
"If we can't, and our ranks get too far apart, we can play some other mode together instead."
"No way. How can you give up on Peak Tournament? I won't allow it! If you don't play, I'll still play!"
-
Before they met, they had spent years among the top 50 in Peak Tournament rank on the Android QQ server. Every season, after reaching King rank, they mostly played Peak Tournament, aside from the occasional ranked match with friends and the times when Peak Tournament wasn't open and they were itching to play. As a result, they didn't have many stars in ranked.
After meeting each other, their ranked stars tied for first place on the national server.
Maybe it's because top professional players and streamers prefer Peak Tournament... They racked up so many stars because it was so hard to run into each other in Peak Tournament, and they wanted so badly to team up and play together!

The wind will remember this long summer.

Stubborn, soft-hearted cutie (national-server Gongsun Li) & gentle, guiding big sister (national-server Yuan marksman)

Content warning: I'm only an average Honor of Kings player, so please let me know if I've got anything wrong.
I should probably make this clear: the two main characters don't actually give up their Peak Tournament rank for love (?). They just make more time to play ranked together!
This isn't really an esports novel. Neither of the leads is a professional player. They meet through the game, but gameplay won't take up much of the story. The balance will be roughly 40% game and 60% real-life daily life.
Neither of the leads goes pro or becomes a streamer simply because their families are already very wealthy~
Please don't compare this to the real national-server rankings~
Version stats and such will be based on the season when I wrote the draft, which I'll specify at the time~
You don't need to play Honor of Kings to enjoy this~ I'll add a brief explanation after the author's notes in each chapter~
