Nanwu Affiliated High School and Nanjiang No. 1 High School are neighbors, but they're rivals.
One day, Ming Yi, the standout student at Nanwu Affiliated High School, and Jin Yichuan, the top academic ace at Nanjiang No. 1 High School, suddenly become able to hear each other's thoughts. Everything they think and feel is laid bare to the other.
Ming Yi discovers that this seemingly helpful, exemplary top student isn't quite as he appears.
Ming Yi is an honest, straightforward person and looks down on people like that. He says disdainfully, "You're so fake."
They part on bad terms.
Later, their relationship improves. Pressured by his homeroom teacher, Ming Yi asks Jin Yichuan to tutor him.
Jin Yichuan thinks about all the strange questions Ming Yi usually asks him, including but not limited to: "Why wasn't Qin Shi Huang's surname Qin?" "Did people in ancient times speak in classical Chinese too? How did they talk when they went grocery shopping?" and "If someone has never seen the color red, how would you explain what it looks like?"
He wants to refuse, but what comes out is, "Finish these worksheets by noon tomorrow. I'll see where you're at first, then figure out how to tutor you."
Later still, when someone finds out they're together, they ask, "Which of you confessed first?"
They exchange a smile and say, "We didn't need to confess. We know everything the other is thinking."
