After her parents died in an accident, Ni Wu was taken in by an old friend of her mother's.
During her years with the Lu family, only Lu Hexun shared a roof with her all year round.
The elders were busy with work, so Lu Hexun took over the responsibility of looking after her as her older brother. Ni Wu could whine and wheedle with everyone else in the family, but she was always in awe of him and did exactly as he said.

The day he found out, she nervously pushed open the door to Lu Hexun's room.
The room was dim. The man sat at the edge of the bed, eyes closed and brow furrowed in the half-light. His clothes were disheveled, the air thick with alcohol. A hair tie of hers was wrapped around his hand. His expression was pained, his beauty touched by ruin.
Stunned and bewildered, she wanted to run, but the next second, his gaze fixed on her.
His eyes were deep and still. In a hoarse voice that left no room for refusal, he called her over. "Come here, Zhaozhao."

On a stormy summer night, Ni Wu's wrists were bound as she was pressed down on the sofa in Lu Hexun's room.
The man's burning lips kissed away the tears at the corners of her eyes. Trembling uncontrollably, she told him, "You're insane."
He held her face and gently nuzzled into the hollow of her neck. Like a man abandoned by everyone, he answered in a fevered voice, "Then just think of me as insane."

When Lu Hexun made Ni Wu promise to follow those three rules, he thought he was being generous enough. Later, he realized the girl had grown up and really was going to date someone.
If other people could, why couldn't he?
His little butterfly was about to fly away. Then he'd just have to catch her and bring her back.
