"The Girl Sticking Out Her Tongue" is set in the countryside of northern Anhui in the 1990s. It tells the story of a girl who was born with "original sin" and was crushed by fate. She is the illegitimate daughter of an underage father and a woman from a foreign land. She has been stigmatized since she was a child. Due to her stubborn oral disease, she developed the habit of "sticking out her tongue" to relieve pain, which is regarded as weird and ominous. After her father died of illness, she was left helpless and was married into a coal miner's family on the advice of a matchmaker. She formed two involuntary marriages with her eldest brother and then her third brother. The Chen family suffered from bereavement, mining disasters, and ethics scandals one after another, and the whole family was ruined. She was regarded by the whole village as the scourge of "bringing kinship". In the end, the third brother, unwilling to accept his fate, escaped from the mountains and rewritten his life by studying, while she stayed alone in the empty courtyard, trapped in the loess, and died in silence, illness and loneliness. The novel uses cold white to describe the powerlessness of women at the bottom, using a small movement to penetrate the pain of a lifetime, completing a fatalistic tragic closed loop.
