Pei Zongyao remains unmoved. His commanding air makes Jiang Zhiyun afraid to meet his eyes. He lays out his terms: "I can help the Jiang family through this crisis. For one year, all you have to do is give birth to my heir."

As their one-year agreement nears its end, Pei Zongyao has pampered her throughout her pregnancy, granting her every request, but Jiang Zhiyun still can't get past her own misgivings.

On top of that, her ex-husband keeps pursuing her relentlessly and claims that Pei Zongyao's childhood friend has returned to the country. After much hesitation, she decides to leave with her daughter.

A blizzard suddenly hits the city that day, nearly closing the roads and bringing travel to a standstill. She has just stepped out of her room to make milk for her daughter when she hears a knock at the door.

She opens it, completely unprepared, only to be swept into the room by a dark figure and pinned against the wall. She stares wide-eyed at the man before her as snow drops from his shoulders and scatters across the floor.

Pei Zongyao looks down at her, his eyes full of hurt. Each word sounds like an accusation: "Why did you sneak away? Are you going to abandon me again?"

Jiang Zhiyun hesitates. "Didn't we agree on one year? Besides, your childhood friend is back in the country. I should..."

The rest of her words are swallowed by his kiss. He closes his eyes and rests his head against her neck, murmuring gently:

"We grew up together. Who else could there be besides you?"
