Yu Xuan opened his eyes and found himself in another world.
Here, monsters roamed everywhere, killing one another to absorb demonic energy and grow stronger.
The bad news was that Yu Xuan had crossed over in his own body, and he was still human.
The good news was that he had zero demonic energy, so the monsters wouldn't eat him.
Yu Xuan: "..."
But what was up with these two little monsters? Their eyes weren't even open, yet they kept burrowing against him and calling him "Mama."
And there was a ball of black mist that kept clinging to him, which seemed to be another little one.
Yu Xuan: "..."
He moved into a cave with the little monsters and was forced to take responsibility for raising them.
He'd planned to earn a few scraps by preparing monster beasts for wealthy monsters, just enough to fill their stomachs. But after he finished, one monster stared at him for a long time, then paid him with a monster beast large enough to feed the "father and children" for... quite a while.
From then on, that monster became a regular customer who came every day.
Business boomed. Their family moved from the cave to a bigger place, and the monster customers were all very polite and respectful toward him. Life was peaceful and cozy.
One day, rumors spread that the Demon King had returned.
Yu Xuan wasn't interested. What troubled him was that his little black-mist cub had taken human form, skipped childhood, and grown up overnight to the same age as him, without giving up its bad habit of clinging to him.
The children had grown up, and Yu Xuan felt a little wistful. He'd been working for years without getting to see the world. He'd heard there were other continents beyond this one, where even higher-ranking monsters lived.
Yu Xuan decided to close up shop for three months and travel with his family and friends. Since business was so good, he worried the monsters might throw a fit, so he gave them the official excuse that they were going on a study trip to learn how to make monster cuisine.
The scenery along the way was beautiful, and the journey was thrilling. But after stepping onto another continent, Yu Xuan kept hearing monsters say:
"The two Demon Kings of the Shika Continent are wandering around with their monsters. Looks like they're preparing for war."
Yu Xuan curiously asked the black-mist cub: Did their continent have Demon Kings? Two of them?
The other simply smiled with narrowed eyes and didn't answer.
"I heard they're using the excuse of closing up shop to study monster cuisine, too."
Yu Xuan: ?
The unclaimed Kashi Continent had little demonic energy, and what there was proved difficult to obtain. Its monsters were low-ranked and ugly, and had long been bullied and abused by monsters from other places.
But fortunately, one day they welcomed their own Demon King.
The Demon King was incredibly beautiful and had not a trace of demonic energy on him. Yet any monster beast he processed would automatically turn into demonic energy they could absorb.
It was no longer difficult for the monsters of the Kashi Continent to obtain demonic energy. They gradually grew stronger, and stronger, and stronger still.
But one day, the Demon King said he was closing up shop for three months to travel somewhere else.
How could that be allowed? Although the other Demon King beside him was incredibly powerful, they were still a little worried about the Demon King's safety.
They were going on a trip, too 😊, following right behind the Demon King.
