Zhong Chenming is a doctoral student in agricultural science. He has no idea that his thesis material is an ancient divine tree.
Yu Muzhi finds himself a heavenly abode. In modern terms, the environment is temperature- and humidity-controlled. He has a servant named Zhong Chenming, who serves him wholeheartedly.
But Yu Muzhi is an immortal tree that drinks only dew, and he is extremely demanding of Zhong Chenming. If Zhong Chenming speaks too loudly, Yu Muzhi droops to show him. If Zhong Chenming steps into the cultivation room with his left foot first, Yu Muzhi droops to show him. If Zhong Chenming enters the cultivation room without checking on Yu Muzhi right away, Yu Muzhi droops to show him.
Yu Muzhi keeps dying and coming back to life, then coming back to life and dying again, according to his moods. Zhong Chenming also keeps living and dying, then dying and living, over Yu Muzhi's condition, until he becomes a twisted, unhinged doctoral student who goes berserk and wreaks havoc on the world.
One day, Zhong Chenming discovers that his thesis material can turn into a person. All his previous anxiety and heartache had been over things that were never real. So Zhong Chenming makes Yu Muzhi come and go from the brink of death over and over. And so Zhong Chenming hates him, does it to him, and remains his most loyal servant all at once.
As Yu Muzhi sobs and tears stream down his face after being ravished, the twisted, unhinged Zhong Chenming kisses away his tears and says gently, ominously, "A willful specimen has to become my wife."
"Not only will you be my wife, you'll also bear my children."
Dazed with pleasure, Yu Muzhi instinctively protests, "I'm not going to have your children. We have reproductive incompatibility..."
"And we're different species..."
So he cries even harder... In his hazy state, he still thinks: He's a noble divine tree. How could he possibly have children?
