Good news: Xia Tong has transmigrated into a modern world where people can cultivate immortality.
Bad news: She arrived before the spiritual qi revival, and she's transmigrated into a dangerous novel world with overpowered male and female protagonists!
Even worse news: Xia Tong is just an unlucky cannon-fodder character in the novel. Before the spiritual qi revival even begins, she's crushed to death by a villainous scion.
To survive in this otherworld, ruled by capital and crawling with powerful clans, and to cultivate successfully, Xia Tong relies on her bound System and works hard to build up her cultivation resources before the spiritual qi revival.
There's just one problem with her System.
It's called the "Demonic Dao Saint Heir Development System."
The System issues the following missions:
1. Kill and devour a hundred poisonous demonic insects. Completion increases poison resistance by ten points. Failure deducts twenty blood-qi points.
Xia Tong: ??? This is so unfair! But... I still have to do it.
[Wasps are poisonous! Perfect for deep-frying and eating!]
2. Raise ten livestock for blood and consume them daily (human livestock recommended). Completion increases constitution by one point each day. Failure deducts ten constitution points.
Xia Tong: ...If she does what the System says, and the spiritual qi revival never comes, she'll be in prison first!
[Better to raise pigs. Pig's blood actually tastes pretty good.]
3. Randomly slaughter ten people. Completion grants an aura of menace. Failure deducts ten luck points.
Xia Tong: Are you serious? You want me to kill people in modern society???
[Then I'll have to go on a killing spree in a game! A shooter or a MOBA? Either works for me!]
Some missions are easy to get around, but others are a real hassle.
Long-Term Mission One: [Suppress the Children of Destiny]
Completion improves aptitude. Too many failures will drain all her talent points, turning her into a useless demonic cultivator!
Xia Tong: "I think this System is the real dead weight!"
She gazed at the supremely talented male and female protagonists, then reluctantly set about completing her missions.
[Doesn't academic dominance count as suppression?]
While everyone else tried to begin cultivating, Xia Tong made sure to master math, physics, and chemistry, holding on to her top ranking.
Once cultivation officially began, she found another way.
She used minor stats like [Poison Resistance] and [Menacing Aura] to [Suppress the Children of Destiny].
Long-Term Mission Two: [Disrupt the Dao Heart of the Orthodox Path's Leader]
Including, but not limited to, making them fall in love before severing their feelings, befriending them before cutting ties, and so on.
Completion achieves [Perfect Demonic Heart]. Failure shatters the demonic heart, leaving her with no hope of attaining the Great Dao!
Xia Tong: "Excuse me? Is something wrong with you???"
After thinking it over, she couldn't bear to ruin the life of a stranger, so she decided to disguise herself and befriend them.
[Once we've grown close, I'll fake my death and disappear. How is that not cutting ties?]
Meanwhile, her true self soared to new heights.
She completely toppled the villainous scion and crushed the powerful interests behind him.
She also defeated the transmigrated male protagonist and subdued the reborn female protagonist, rising to the top of the modern cultivation world!
*
Along the way, an incident left Xia Tong with mixed feelings.
The mission [Disrupt the Dao Heart of the Orthodox Path's Leader] had actually been completed beyond expectations.
She had achieved both [Make Them Fall in Love, Then Sever Their Feelings] and [Befriend Them, Then Cut Ties].
And the other person really had suffered a [Shattered Dao Heart] because of her "death."
But... in the end, she couldn't bear to watch them fall into the demonic path.
"Hey, friend, turns out I'm not dead."
