There are two people here who will be Harry's dogs, and another who can teach Harry ancient magic.
Part One covers Years Four through Seven. The main pairing is Soi Scoto (a descendant of the Potter family, original male lead) and Harry. The Potter family has some control over Harry, but they don't appear much.
Part Two takes place after graduation. The Harry Potter protagonist only appears then, and I might start a new book when I get to that point!
Both parts are told from Harry's completely uncritical point of view. Soi has some issues with Harry at first, but Harry's personality soon wins him over.
As for the original characters, whatever Harry thinks of them is what I think of them. Read at your own risk.
