When Qing Ci was eighteen, An Che said with restraint, "No. I'm your teacher, and you're my student."

When Qing Ci was twenty-five, An Che gave in. "All right, but you have to be allowed to leave."

When Qing Ci was twenty-seven, An Che made her let go of her obsession and return from a small county town to the big city.

When Qing Ci was twenty-eight, An Che chased after her and said, "Ci Ci, I don't want us to stop at being teacher and student. This time, let me love you with all my heart."

One is a gentle, reserved high school Chinese teacher.

The other is an honest and idealistic high school Chinese teacher. The latter pursues the former, who has no choice but to face her forbidden feelings: she has fallen for a former student, whom she even took in and cared for for a while.
