In the year 2000 of the interstellar era, the Institute of Magical Research discovered that the strength of people's magical and prayer talents was directly connected to how strongly they believed in the gods. Faith in the gods grew stronger on every planet. Followers of different gods began attacking one another, yet they united when it came to dealing with heretics, hunting them down in the greatest possible numbers and sending them to the stake.
Unfortunately, Wei Xun was born into a heretical family like that.
His father was an atheist, and his mother believed gods were useless.
After Wei Xun was born,
his father whispered in his left ear, “Child, you must know that there are no gods in this world. They're just a tool the powerful use to control the people.”
His mother whispered in his right ear, “Child, you must know that the piety of believers has nothing whatsoever to do with talent. If you're bad at something, you're bad at it. Don't make excuses by claiming you weren't devout enough.”
Growing up in such a family, Wei Xun naturally became a heretic.
So that he and his parents wouldn't be made into a stake-roasted sandwich, he went through the motions of praying to the local gods every day.
At eighteen,
Wei Xun finally managed to get into a university on the capital planet from the miserable, mud-splattered planet HC-4564. But as soon as he arrived at the port, before he could even find out where his school was, a group of people who looked rich and powerful stopped him. Their leader looked like a respectable gentleman and pulled out a marriage certificate, claiming he was Wei Xun's husband, whom he'd never met.
The man who claimed to be his husband was unfailingly polite. “I'm Weisheng Yu. I'm your husband, and your guardianship has been transferred to me.”
The Weisheng family.
They controlled the most famous magical machinery company in the interstellar world. Their business spanned countless industries, and they were powerful and influential. They had also played no small part in persecuting heretics.
The family was said to be utterly twisted, embodying every backward feudal custom from every planet. Normal people went in and came out mentally ill.
Wei Xun deeply regretted it. “...So this is the punishment for going through the motions of praying every day. It's the year 2100 of the interstellar era, and people are still tricking others into marriage. And they tricked a poor guy like me into it.”
But the marriage certificate was real, and his guardianship had indeed been transferred. Just like that, Wei Xun was forced to become the newlywed wife of the renowned head of the Weisheng family.

Weisheng Yu was a famous magical prodigy throughout the interstellar world. Everyone saw his dazzling success, but no one knew that his mental domain was on the verge of collapse.
On the eve of its complete collapse, he saw a name on the enrollment list for the Capital Magic University.
The person was completely ordinary, with a timid gaze, and came from a remote, backward trash planet, yet he stirred Weisheng Yu's most primal desire.
He had to have him.
*
Weisheng Yu is very pleased with his wife. He's obedient and well-behaved, always looking at him with dewy eyes, and never refuses him.
Weisheng Yu thinks they'll live happily like this until one day, the leader of a heretical organization he's been in secret contact with shows up.
It is none other than his sweet, well-behaved wife.
