[Mature, dependable, old-fashioned, overprotective childhood friend x scatterbrained, sweet, innocent little troublemaker]
Sang Zhuo grew up with Pei Jincheng, the eldest son of the family his father worked for. Pei Jincheng was both like an older brother and his childhood friend.
As a child, Sang Zhuo often clung to Pei Jincheng and wheedled affection from him. If he stuck close, he could get the sweets he wasn't usually allowed to have.
When he grew up, Sang Zhuo fell for Pei Jincheng. But before his feelings could take root, Pei Jincheng's words, "I don't like guys," frightened him so badly that he fled from his side that very night.
After Sang Zhuo graduated from college, his father quit his job as the Pei family's driver. Sang Zhuo thought he would never set foot in Haishi again, but then his father came home with news that Pei Jincheng wanted to marry him.
Sang Zhuo wondered if he'd heard wrong. "...Who wants to marry me??"
.
At first, Pei Jincheng found having a younger brother around extremely annoying. He wasn't very bright and was afraid of him. A slightly harsh tone would make him tear up, and if Pei Jincheng didn't comfort him, he wouldn't show his face for days.
Then an enemy sought revenge. The hired men remembered only the license plate number and mistook Sang Zhuo for Pei Jincheng. Fortunately, help arrived in time, and Sang Zhuo didn't even know in his sleep that he'd almost died.
Only then did Pei Jincheng realize that the little tagalong he'd thought of as a younger brother had long since come to mean something different to him.
From then on, he had Sang Zhuo move into his house, and fussed over making sure he slept and ate. His parents joked that he treated Sang Zhuo like his wife. Pei Jincheng was distracted. So what if he wanted to marry Sang Zhuo and make him his wife?
When Sang Zhuo graduated from high school, Pei Jincheng planned to confess his feelings.
He prepared a graduation gift for Sang Zhuo, but Sang Zhuo gave him a lie about going to college in the same city, followed by a journey of more than a thousand kilometers between them.
Pei Jincheng lost Sang Zhuo twice in all.
Once through no choice of his own, and once by choice. He realized that the only reasonable way to keep Sang Zhuo by his side was to marry him.
Bonus scene
When they first started living together after getting married, Pei Jincheng would often wake up in the middle of the night just to make sure Sang Zhuo was still beside him.
What's more, he wanted to keep Sang Zhuo by his side at all times, where he could always see him. He even had a tracking device installed on him.
Sang Zhuo tried to bargain with him. "Can you stop being so clingy?"
Pei Jincheng's face turned cold. "No, baby. Not unless I'm dead."
Both are each other's only love, happy ending.
