The blurb may be revised, but the premise won't change.
In the wildly popular full-dive game The Arbiter, the ultimate villain, Doom, is every player's nightmare.
Whether they're experienced veterans with maxed-out stats or top players with incredible talent, every single one of them is tormented by this cold-blooded, cruel, and powerful villain, dying and reviving, reviving and dying, reloading again and again until they break.
Since the game launched, no one has ever cleared it.
Then a game bug forcibly dragged the players into the game world.
The players: ???
Crap, we're doomed!
They enter the game at the point when Doom is fifteen and studying at Aiston Academy. Doom is already showing signs of his vile nature. The players carefully navigate being his classmates while trying to figure out how to nip this rotten seed in the bud.
Until someone has a flash of inspiration: If the event code for Doom, the ultimate villain, can't be changed, could they change the event code for Duan Xinghan, an ordinary NPC?
Isn't he the kind older brother Doom himself admitted he missed?
*
Duan Xinghan is a first-rank commander of the Alliance. Eighteen years ago, while leading a team to wipe out the largest rebel organization, he found and took in the organization's young son.
He named the boy Duan Yan, took him in as his younger brother, and raised him with great care.
As he lay dying from his grievous wounds, Duan Xinghan thought:
Duan Yan is obedient, sensible, upright, and kind now. He won't follow in his father's footsteps. I can close my eyes in peace.
Then he came back to life.
The person who brought him back, in floods of tears, told him that his little brother would grow up to be utterly unscrupulous and wicked, spend ten years at the top of the Alliance's most-wanted list, and become the most hated public enemy in the entire Alliance.
Duan Xinghan: ?
The players: “We hope you'll keep guiding him with love, educating him with warmth, patiently showing him the way, and bringing him back to the right path...”
Duan Xinghan: ??
Duan Xinghan said nothing. One day, he accompanied an investigation team to Aiston Academy.
Without the slightest warmth, he kicked Doom to the ground.
His voice was cold as ice. “Duan Yan, I've only been gone three years, and you think you've grown wings?”
The players: ???
Black-hearted, two-faced seme × cool, beautiful uke with exceptional combat strength
Duan Yan (Doom) × Duan Xinghan
