Synopsis
Strange phenomena are appearing on Earth in ever-greater numbers. Chen Sui is an unregistered meteorite that crashed into Earth, and he too is classified as a strange phenomenon.
Humans offered him a job at the Strange Phenomena Containment Bureau, where he became an externally contracted containment officer.
A few years passed, and Chen Sui gradually settled into human society.
Then one day, after successfully containing a strange phenomenon as usual, Chen Sui returned home and found something that had fallen outside his door... a tiny moon?
Before his eyes, the tiny moon transformed into a black-haired girl.
The two nonhumans stared at each other in silence. After a long pause, Chen Sui called the head of the Strange Phenomena Containment Bureau.
Chen Sui: "There's a strange phenomenon at my house."
The director, who was busy containing the [Automatic Answer Pen]: "Bring it back."
Chen Sui: "I don't think I can."
Chen Sui glanced at Bai You, who was eating malatang for the first time and had her eyes squeezed shut in delight, then looked up at the huge, bright moon in the sky.
Lately, the moon had been acting like this all the time: dim one moment, bright the next, sometimes even bobbing up and down like it was dancing.
Humans on Earth couldn't understand the moon's behavior and speculated that it had become a spirit.
Most people treated it as a joke, though. No one took it seriously.
Chen Sui: It sounds absurd and makes no sense, but it's actually true.
The director was baffled. Was there really a strange phenomenon Chen Sui couldn't contain?
Chen Sui: "She's... the one up there."
Director: "...?"
Up there? A deity?
In all his years of containing strange phenomena, he'd never seen a deity. Those were just figures from myths and legends, weren't they?
The director arrived at the scene and fell silent for a moment. Then he realized: Oh, she really isn't a deity. She's the moon.
!!!!!!!!!!
The moon had become a strange phenomenon?!
Of course not. Bai You, the Moon, had always been conscious.
Bai You: "Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are all conscious too."
Director: "..."
Bai You: "Earth is conscious as well."
Director: "..."
Bai You: "The Sun is too, but it usually ignores us... Anyway, it has never talked to me."
Director: "..."
Chen Sui pulled out some fast-acting heart pills. The director swallowed three at once, and finally came back to his senses.
The Strange Phenomena Containment Bureau went into an uproar.
So did the higher-ups.
After who knew how many rounds of heated discussion, Bai You was allowed to stay at Chen Sui's place for the time being.
Chen Sui: "She's a moon..."
Director: "At least you both came from somewhere else. You must have something in common."
Chen Sui, the Nameless Meteorite who saw absolutely nothing they had in common: "..." Fine.
Later, Chen Sui watched a whole crowd of "people" gather around the table, chattering as they ate hot pot. "..." He wasn't sure this was going to work.
This was his home, not a party venue for the stars of the Solar System.
"Come on, come eat!" Bai You grabbed him and pulled him back to his seat. "Try this. It's new, and it's so good."
Chen Sui looked at the tender white crystal dumplings in his bowl and sighed silently. Fine, it could be a party venue.
"Let's buy these again next time."
"Okay."

1. Ordinary Person's Travel Check-Ins in the Cultivation World
He Qiu Zhi died saving someone. She thought her life had ended there, but when she opened her eyes, she found herself in the cultivation world.
The System apologized. When it bound its Host, it had accidentally brought her soul here. To make up for it, the System gave He Qiu Zhi two chances to spin a prize wheel.
On the first spin, He Qiu Zhi won a rubber-body constitution.
Both she and the System fell silent.
On the second spin, after the System punched the wheel, He Qiu Zhi won the [Cultivation Compatibility Card] ability.
The System explained that He Qiu Zhi was neither its Host nor a soul from this world, so she couldn't cultivate. However, the [Cultivation Compatibility Card] let her use all kinds of spiritual artifacts and medicines just like a cultivator.
The System still had to help its Host complete their mission. After leaving He Qiu Zhi with a simple photo check-in system, it departed.
She could earn points by taking photos and having them verified. The points could be exchanged for spiritual artifacts, medicines, and more.
-
In the modern world, He Qiu Zhi was socially anxious. Her parents thought she was going nowhere. After they divorced, neither wanted her, and they passed her back and forth until she ended up with her elderly grandmother.
Her grandmother was old. She couldn't see clearly, often forgot things, and had poor hearing. She often forgot who Qiu Zhi was and couldn't hear what He Qiu Zhi was saying. Qiu Zhi had to repeat herself again and again. The village children didn't like going to her house.
But He Qiu Zhi loved her. She was a slow, patient person, so when her grandmother couldn't understand, she explained things a few more times. When her grandmother forgot her, she told her again and again that she was her granddaughter. She told her what she was going to do, where they were, and how beautiful the golden wheat fields were.
As long as her grandmother was there, Qiu Zhi was content.
Her grandmother passed away.
Her parents only came by for the funeral on the day of the service.
Outside the funeral hall, they started arguing about who would take her in this time.
Qiu Zhi didn't want to go anywhere. She just wanted to stay in the village, so she worked up the courage to tell her parents.
They granted her wish and arranged to send money each month, which Qiu Zhi managed herself.
It was the first thing that made Qiu Zhi happy after her grandmother's death.
Even when the money arrived later and later, and in smaller and smaller amounts.
After graduating from college, Qiu Zhi found an ordinary job. The pay wasn't high, but it was enough to live on. Every day, she went back and forth between home and work.
The System didn't know that Qiu Zhi was actually glad she had died saving someone.
Her life hadn't been meaningless.
So even though the System felt terribly sorry, Qiu Zhi was grateful to have been given another life.
-
After packing her things and sorting out her clothes, Qiu Zhi set out on her journey.
With this second life, she wanted to cherish every moment.
She also wanted to record every moment of this otherworld's scenery, so that if she ever got the chance, she could tell her grandmother about it.
2. The Blind Immortal's Easygoing Life
Gui Nanwu was a transmigrator who had been bound to a system.
There was nothing wrong with that. The problem was that by the time the System finally showed up, he had already become an immortal.
The System fell silent for a moment, then said, "Perfect. I'll treat this as a vacation."
And so, a man and a system began their long, laid-back life on a deserted island.
-
After saying goodbye to yet another friend, Gui Nanwu was on his way back. The sky was full of stars, and the moon shone with a clear, silvery light.
The System asked again, "How did you go blind?"
Gui Nanwu: "I lent one eye to someone, and the other ran away."
The System was suspicious. "You're sure you didn't cry yourself blind?"
Gui Nanwu chuckled. He took a sip of clear wine and sat in the boat, gazing at the starlight and the full moon. Then he said:
"The seas have changed, and this is no longer my era. My friends, too, have all gone their separate ways."
Theme: A sincere spirit of inquiry is precious.
