Modern office drone Zhu Qingli wakes up in the body of a fallen kingdom's princess, only to find a phone buried in a jumble of rubble.
She cries out to the heavens and the earth, but neither answers. Instead, she somehow summons a whole crowd of online yes-men.
Netizens: Is this a new account trying to get followers?
Zhu Qingli struggles to explain. She has just escaped an abandoned temple in the rain, and now she faces a new crisis: the kingdom has fallen and her family is dead from the start. The various factions are jostling for power, her elder brother is up to no good, and he has sent a highly skilled bodyguard to escort her back to the palace.
He killed the reinforcements from the princess's residence and watched her ordeal with cold indifference. He wears an icy, unapproachable expression day in and day out, but he has also… dutifully and attentively protected her the whole way.
Zhu Qingli: I like him.
The netizens suggest she win him over, but who knew he would rather die than submit? He turns her down coldly: “This subordinate would rather die than betray his master.”
Zhu Qingli: I like him even more.
Netizens: Are you a masochist?

People only pick on those they think they can handle. That's true of Wen Rong, and even more true of his master.
After entering the palace, Zhu Qingli carefully navigates the dangers with advice from her netizens, her cyber-court officials. She uses her phone to perform all sorts of tricks, keeping the emperor and his ministers thoroughly bamboozled. In the end, all it takes is a slight parting of her lips: “Second Brother is plotting a rebellion.”
Emperor: Execute him!
Second Prince: ?
“Unless you can give me Wen Rong,” Zhu Qingli says with a smile, clasping her hands behind her back. “But then again…”
And so Wen Rong is suddenly framed. His master suspects him of secretly conspiring with the princess and has him tortured before sending him to her, covered in wounds and reduced to her prisoner.
He has never suffered such a baseless disaster in his life.
Even though she takes such good care of him, all she gets in return is his resentful declaration: “I will never betray my master, even if I die.”
Zhu Qingli: “Your master now is me.”
Wen Rong is so furious he nearly drops dead.
Netizens: A forcibly picked melon… is so sweet.

As Wen Rong spends his days and nights with the princess, she recognizes his worth and treats him with great favor. Yet he still cherishes the old bond between master and servant. When a letter arrives from his former master, he runs away all the same.
On a night of torrential rain, he is ambushed and wounded, hovering on the brink of death. The princess, born to a life of luxury, draws the poison from his wounds, bandages him, and lets him rest against her.
A disloyal subject, a servant who turned against his master, a wretched slave: he alone wins the favor of the princess, precious as a golden branch and jade leaf. The servants are consumed with jealousy, yet he has never cherished what he was given.
Wen Rong finally sees the truth.
But it is too late.
The princess no longer looks at him with tender affection. Her gaze is cold as a sword. “Since you still long for your former master, I may as well let you go. Leave, and don't come back.”
The princess is sick of him and has cast him aside. She no longer wants him.
He has become a stray dog with no master.
Regret is useless now. All he asks is to remain by her side. He is willing to do menial chores, to be her outlet. He works without complaint, accepts every beating and insult. Whatever she gives him, he takes willingly, asking only for a single gracious glance, a moment of pity.
In remorse, he despises himself. Amid the insults, he gives up on himself. He spends every day drowning in the scraps of affection she gives him, going through fire and water and risking his life, all to earn a word of concern from her.
He is more than content with it.
The deeper his yearning grows, the stronger his greed becomes. He longs to truly belong to her, to bear her mark, to stand at her side openly and become her blade.
Better to die beneath her skirt than serve a masterless life.
Amid the battle between the two armies, her casual words take half his life away:
“Wen Rong, kill him. When it's done, I'll give you a new brand.”
He rises from the flames, eyes blood-red and glowing like ghost fire. His bloodstained sword shoots out in a blur, ringing with a metallic clang.
He returns, drenched in blood, and kneels before her in reverence.
She only gently strokes his head.
Zhu Qingli: No conquering the world today. Today, I'm wishing this couple a long and happy life ^^
