A torrential rain made everyone grow ears, tails, and claws that didn't belong to them. Everyone mutated, except Bai Shuo.
The strange rule-bound zones mutated too.
You must not speak loudly in the library, or the monkey librarian will clamp you between the pages of a book as a bookmark.
The dormitory must be kept tidy, or the flower-rat matron will turn you into trash.
You must not waste food in the cafeteria, or the wild boar inspector will turn you into ingredients.
These rules of good conduct became the absolute order of the mutated campus.
As the saying goes, where there are rules, there must be loopholes.
Bai Shuo flipped through the school handbook and thought, This is right up my alley. I'm a law student, after all.
When the cafeteria's wild boar inspector overturned a tray and roared, “Those who waste food are as guilty as slops,” everyone frantically shoved food into their mouths. Bai Shuo alone picked out a piece of ginger and declared with conviction, “Seasoning residue doesn't count as food.”
When the library's monkey librarian hung upside down from a bookshelf, chattering, “Silence is required,” everyone held their breath. Bai Shuo argued righteously, “Reciting is a form of studying. Studying doesn't count as making noise.”
He could outwit the school rules and argue circles around the fungal beasts, but he couldn't get through Chen Zhiyi's long game.
As Bai Shuo's childhood friend, Chen Zhiyi knew many of his little habits.
When Bai Shuo frowned, he was thinking through loopholes in the rules. When he pressed his lips together, he was busy grumbling to himself. When he rubbed his cheek, it meant he'd already refuted the other person eight hundred times in his head and was ready to make a big deal out of it.
So when Chen Zhiyi leaned in to kiss him, Bai Shuo turned his face away and tried to come up with a hundred reasons why it was unreasonable. “The amount of bacteria carried in saliva poses an unpredictable risk during the apocalypse...”
Chen Zhiyi's nose brushed his, leaving no chance to finish. “Are you really going to use that loophole-finding mouth of yours to argue against kissing someone you obviously want to kiss?”

The Wasteland Cat Refuses to Be a Sacrificial Pawn
As a beastman of the tabby cat breed, Pei Jin has a simple philosophy: If he can lie down, he won't stand up. If he can use his fists, he won't use his words.
He hadn't had enough of the good life yet when he transmigrated into a melodramatic romance novel as the sacrificial sidekick, a pathetic lapdog who had been bullied for eleven years but still remained hopelessly devoted.
It was bad enough that this sidekick shared his name. Even his spirit form was the same breed. But he was only D-rank, and he died with a snap on the battlefield after shielding his unrequited love from a blade.
Pei Jin, who had always taken life and death in stride and fought back whenever he was wronged, couldn't stand for that.
A lapdog is a lapdog. In the end, you don't even have a life.
But hold on. Why does he have to be the sacrificial pawn?!

A major incident rocked Osos Military Academy. The notorious Karen's lackey, who was always at his heels, had changed drastically after returning to school to recover from injuries sustained during a purge mission.
He mouthed off to teachers, beat up princes, and did whatever he pleased. His classmates wondered, “Did he hit his head during the purge mission?!”
Then one day, they saw Wen Yu, the newly appointed instructor who had parachuted in, the Empire's smiling Grim Reaper, pinned against the training pod door in a wall slam by him.
The students cried, “We're doomed! He really did hit his head!” He even dared to provoke Wen Yu!
•
Wen Yu was the youngest commander in the history of the Saina Empire, and the first outsider to enter the heart of power with a D-rank herbivore spirit form. Young people looked up to him as a role model, the public revered him as a hero, and his colleagues thought of him as a mad dog.
He never expected to be wall-slammed against the training pod door by the lapdog who followed the Third Prince around.
“Instructor Wen, forgive me. I just wanted to ask, what do you think of me?”
