The Moon Grows Colder Over Chang'an

The moonlight over Chang’an stretched on and on, once illuminating Gu Jingshu’s gentle grace.

She was a refined young lady of a distinguished family, with clear, elegant features and a pure heart. She once believed in family bonds and promised herself a deep love, thinking her life would be peaceful and secure. But people’s hearts were unfathomable. Her closest kin betrayed her, the love she had hoped for became a calamity, and one day her family was falsely accused and brought down, its blood and tears staining the earth.

She was schemed against and betrayed, cast into the mire, and made to taste the world’s cold indifference. From then on, the moon over Chang’an grew colder, as did all the tenderness in Gu Jingshu’s heart.

Reborn, she returned with her girlish innocence tucked away and her wounds concealed. Calm and composed, she entered the political chess game, advancing step by step with every move planned. She swore to tear away the mask of hypocrisy, settle her bloody vendetta, protect the friends and family she had left, and bring down everyone who had betrayed and harmed her.

Lu Siheng wielded power over the entire court, aloof and unapproachable from his lofty position, watching the world’s rise and fall with cold eyes. He had no interest in romance and kept himself apart from the turmoil, yet beneath the chill moonlight, he happened upon Gu Jingshu, concealing her edge and enduring each step in silence.

He saw the storms in her eyes and understood her lonely courage. Amid the treachery of the imperial palace and the strife between noble families, he bent down for her and stood up for her.

The winds and rains of Chang’an brought wave after wave of political schemes and tangled grudges.

Gu Jingshu wielded her schemes like a blade, traversing the world’s grudges and grievances. Lu Siheng wielded his power like a shield, protecting her year after year.

The moonlight continued to grow cold, but he gave her a lifetime of tenderness. Together, they would keep the lights of Chang’an burning and weather the long years ahead.
