When Shen Yanting was twelve, he found a battered boy in the deepest storeroom of the orphanage. The boy had no name, no one would take him in, and the registration form only said “wild brat.” Shen crouched down and reached out to those amber eyes. “Would you like to come home with me?”
The boy clutched his fingers with enough force to nearly crush his bones. Shen named him Shen Yu, an island in the sea. Now you have a home. You don’t have to drift alone anymore.
Ten years later, the boy he’d taken in had Shen Yanting’s name tattooed over his heart. After ten years of pretending and carefully laying his plans, he cleared away every obstacle around Shen Yanting. He seized control from his father, drove away his older brother’s prospective match, and cut off every path of retreat. At last, the mad dog bared its fangs. But inside an iron box lay a moldy old rag doll, a missing button, and a yellowed letter: “Big brother, once I become really strong, no one will dare bully you.”
A debt of gratitude twisted into a cage, and the savior became the prey. His greatest despair wasn’t being imprisoned. It was realizing he felt sorry for the person who had ruined his life. Shen Yu had gotten everything wrong, except the person he loved.
The chains have always been held at both ends.
