Zhou Bufang considered himself an excellent puppeteer.
He was gifted, came from a good family, and was handsome.
Most importantly, he was handsome.
Unfortunately, he stumbled at the last hurdle. An elephant tripped over an ant, and he died during an ordinary trial.
He closed his eyes and never opened them again.
But after hearing enough ghost stories as a ghost, miracles were bound to happen.
Somehow, he came back to life.
Before he could even laugh out loud, he realized something was wrong with his new body: he'd been resurrected inside a puppet!
A puppet made by his archrival, Wang Gangtie!!!
The kind that would die if he got more than five zhang away from her!!
Wang Gangtie was poor and uncouth, and she'd always gone out of her way to target him when he was alive. Now that his life was in her hands, Zhou Bufang kept his head down.
Swallowing his bitterness and concealing who he really was, he took the alias Fang Zhou and waited for Wang Gangtie to let him go.
Wang Gangtie told him to go east, and he wanted to go west, but his body moved east of its own accord.
All Zhou Bufang could do was whimper through his tears.
Until one day, he and Wang Gangtie accidentally fell into an illusion.
In the wish-fulfilling illusion, he didn't want to return to his original body. Instead... instead, he wanted to become Dao companions with Wang Gangtie?!
Could it be that, deep down, he... he liked her a little?
**
Wang Gangtie liked to push herself.
She kept every meal and drink as simple as possible, and when it came to clothes, she saved wherever she could.
It was one way she pushed herself.
Because she owed a huge debt she couldn't repay.
A life debt to Zhou Bufang.
Zhou Bufang, the archrival she'd once targeted at every turn and mocked without mercy.
A life debt had to be repaid with a life.
She made up her mind: even if everyone condemned her, even if she had to sacrifice her body and soul, even if she had to search the heavens above and the underworld below, she would bring Zhou Bufang back alive!
Theme: A tight-lipped gourd is not allowed to fall in love.
