Rough draft, going for something like an infinite-flow story:
X lost his job.
As miserable as it was, he really had been fired by his own secretary.
And after working for just 35 days, too!
At least his secretary... his former secretary still cared about him.
On the former secretary's recommendation, X got a new job from Ms. Binah.
The work was a little different from his previous position, but X soon got used to it.
Not long after...
Huh?
The black-haired young man looked over the list of players in this game and noticed something odd.
He knew this person!
Wasn't that his department head?!
Did Angela fire all of you too?!!

I tried playing the L version of Lobotomy Corporation. The Manager had it rough, with no department heads at all.
Then I got to the beta version. There were department heads, but no E.G.O.
Anyway, the plots of the two versions are more or less the same, except B has department heads and L doesn't.
This premise follows the Bus's explanation.
If the official version is the correct timeline, then L and B are worlds where the timeline was cut short.
I want to write a story about a Manager who has lost his future.
A brief note about the setting: In these two versions, the Abnormalities weren't harvested from the Well. They were extracted from dreams.
A is the one who set the plan in motion. These two versions don't have C, and since the story doesn't reach the end, they don't have the lower-layer storyline either. Angela feels like an AI that has evolved a little too much on its own. She wasn't created to take C's place. She really was an AI made for the plan.
Anyway, the plots of both versions are pretty wild. The department heads' personalities also feel subtly different. Even the algae are a bit more cheerful.
Theme: Finding a purer version of oneself
