“Dotting pediatric surgeon x clear-eyed risk-control expert who falls into love”
A realistic road-trip story | Two strong leads | Healing | Happy ending
Su He, known in finance circles as an “iron woman,” suddenly quits her job and sets off alone along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway.
She thinks she's simply going to fulfill a promise she made as a teenager but never kept.
But aboard the train to Tibet, she meets Gu Yu, a pediatrician who's steady as a rock but unpleasant to talk to...
When a five-year-old boy has a sudden seizure, he makes his way through the panicked crowd into the carriage, speaking with precision and meticulous care from start to finish.
Later, when she announces that she's leaving on a whim with no plans, he even helps her find somewhere to stay.
“Thank you so much. How much do I owe you? I'll pay you now.”
“It's fine.”
The door lock beeped. He walked straight into the room and shut the door.
She was left standing there in a daze. (Cue the sound of a crow flying by.)
...This guy really doesn't waste a single word.
Don't worry. The very next day, this “stone-faced king who's steady as a rock but unpleasant to talk to” will voluntarily hand over his ID and, even though he drives a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, ask her to come along with him in a suitably humble manner. (That's how it would sound if you told the story.)
But is Su He the kind of person to do that? She cheerfully throws her money around, spending twenty thousand to hire a handsome doctor as her driver and bodyguard. What a bargain!
They travel together through snow-capped mountains and highland plateaus four thousand meters above sea level, surrounded by beautiful scenery and romantic nights. Before she knows it, Su He has fallen for him.
Until one day, she accidentally learns a deeply buried secret.
When the truth comes to light, they find themselves on opposite sides.
Premise: The richness of life has never been about meaning, but about the distant places we have yet to reach.
The opening chapter of "My Wife" is particularly cleverly conceived, using a journey on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway as the stage for the story, giving it a sense of wandering and relaxation. The female protagonist Su Ho is a risk control elite who works hard in the financial market and is decisive in killing. She quits her high-pressure job and goes to the Old Testament; the male protagonist Gu Yu is a pediatrician with solid medical skills and a reserved personality. He is calm and reliable when saving people, but is taciturn and cold in daily interactions. The train emergency scene quickly establishes the male protagonist's professional and reliable image, and the subsequent scene where the female protagonist simply spends money to invite her companions has its own interesting tension. The collision of one cold and one cool character is particularly natural. The form of a reality-oriented road novel is overlaid with the emotional lines of redemption and love-hate. The journey is not only a physical journey, but also a process for two people to come out of the past and heal each other. The rhythm of the beginning is relaxed and interesting, and I am very much looking forward to the affection and pull that will develop along the way.
