Wei Fenghe is a strange little monster cat that popped out of a crack in a rock, with long horns growing from her head.
After she emerged from the earth, the wild beasts around her eyed her hungrily, all wanting to eat her. She was greedy and lazy, and since being a monster meant she could go without food for a while, she stayed curled up in her little mound of dirt, poking out only her head and living a leisurely, hungry life until dizziness blurred her vision.
Luckily, a young boy who still had a hint of childishness about him found her and took her home. His eyes were clear, his features delicate and handsome, his lips red and teeth white. He was gentle-tempered and good-natured, though not much of a talker.
He was a carpenter from an ordinary family, but he fed her until she grew bigger and bigger, turning into a huge, chubby little girl. She grew faster and larger than other people's children.
Whenever Fenghe saw him, she would mumble that she was hungry. His eyes filled with tenderness, and every day he brought her milk and fed her meals and stewed beef, afraid she'd go hungry and become the same pitiful creature she'd been before.
The little carpenter grew more exhausted by the day. Fenghe ate so much that unless he took on extra work, he couldn't afford to keep her.
Before the monster cat gained her wits, she always thought the little carpenter was her father. Why else would he raise her and give her such good food and care?
To get more food, prettier dresses, and more attention from the little carpenter, she'd act cute and sometimes call him "Daddy."
Whenever she did, the young carpenter, with his youthful features and fair, handsome face, would have tears in his eyes and blush beneath them.
In his gentle, helpless manner, he would tell her, "Don't call me that in front of people again."
One day, she overheard a woman outside gossiping that women with big bottoms were good at having children. It made her think of the little carpenter, so she foolishly told him he looked like he could have lots of children and should give her many little brothers and sisters. Once he understood what she meant, he couldn't say a word for a long while. Blushing, brows slightly furrowed, he gazed at Fenghe in silence, his expression strange. After a long time, he finally told her to behave herself.
Once, she unfortunately turned back into that strange cat with horns and meowed in his arms.
He wasn't afraid of her at all. He gently told her,
"No matter what you turn into, you'll always be my child."
In less than five years, Fenghe had changed completely. Monsters weren't like humans. By then, she was already an adult, but the little carpenter still couldn't bear to abandon her. He kept working hard every day to support her, as gentle and honest as ever, and never said a word even when he was hurt.
When he learned she was a five-tailed, single-horned leopard monster, he worried she'd go hungry and even offered to feed her his own flesh and blood, willingly letting her bite him.
But Fenghe had other ideas. He was so sweet and delicious that once she reached adulthood, she wanted to keep him all to herself. She told him she felt unwell, and the innocent, pure-hearted little carpenter gave himself to her without hesitation.
Ashamed and distressed, he urged her,
"Little Treasure, once you're feeling better, you can't do these things to me anymore."
"This isn't right. You're my child."
Later, Fenghe thought he hated her and ran away. But he came looking for her himself, eyes red-rimmed. Obedient and silent, he took the initiative to kiss her. He asked if she was hungry, if she still wanted him, and said he couldn't live without her. He begged Fenghe not to leave him alone.
