Lin Yi was preparing lessons for high school when he read a novel recommended by a friend and died of anger on the spot.
He woke up inside the very novel he'd been reading before he died, as the sickly younger brother of a villain who was destined to die young.
The original book barely described this young master. It only said that he'd fallen seriously ill at the age of three and had been in poor health ever since. A month before his parents died, he caught a chill and died. That's how Lin Yi, who had dropped dead, ended up transmigrating into his body.
At first, Lin Yi knew the general plot and did everything he could to keep the villain away from the heroine, afraid he'd fall in love with her at first sight. But even so, it happened before he knew it.
Every day, he complained furiously in his head, never noticing that someone behind him was staring so hard it felt like they could bore a hole through his back.
As they grew older, the Yinji Sect filled up with handsome men and beautiful women.
The most handsome were the gong and the shou. But the shou was more popular, because the gong was cool and reserved, never showing sadness or joy, and only ever smiling for the shou.
If the gong was a moonlight beyond reach, high in the heavens, the shou was warm sunshine. He loved to smile and tease, and was funny and charming, but he also treated women with respect, earning himself a whole crowd of devoted admirers.
Though his health wasn't great, the gong took such good care of the shou that no one else could tell.
The secret realm, which opened only once every five years, was waiting for them both. But they never expected to fall into an even deeper trap.
Chen Lie envied their talent and deliberately lured a much more powerful monster over while they were fighting a demon beast, then hid away himself.
For some reason, the monster went berserk and attacked everyone it saw. The shou couldn't dodge in time. One swipe sent him flying, and he slammed into a tree, coughing up a mouthful of blood. Seeing the shou hurt, the gong went on a killing spree.
Everyone in the sect knew the person he treasured most was the shou, his younger brother in everything but blood. The shou was his Achilles' heel, his forbidden scale, the one line no one could cross. He wanted to kill the monster, but he was only nineteen, and his cultivation wasn't strong enough.
He couldn't kill it. Just as it seemed the gong could no longer hold out, the shou exchanged some points for Rejuvenation Pills through the System, channeled his magic, and drove his sword through the monster's claw.
The monster howled and toppled to one side, right toward the shou.
Well, yes, I haven't figured out what happens next. If you want to know how the story goes, you'll have to read on, one step at a time.
