Xu He has schizophrenia and will relapse if he stops taking medication.
Shen Heng is a paraplegic and goes to the convenience store at two o'clock in the morning every day to buy rice balls for the upcoming holidays.
None of them thought they were going to get better.
The first time Xu He met Shen Heng, he thought of her dead father. Both of them were paraplegics, both were taciturn and suffered all the embarrassment alone in the middle of the night.
She couldn't help but get closer to him. Shen Heng didn't reject her. He was too tired to chase away anyone who was willing to squat down and look at him levelly.
They didn't save each other.
Xu He still suffers from insomnia and enters a state of dissociation uncontrollably, and the voices in her head never really disappear; Shen Heng's wheelchair is still so worn out, his pressure ulcers still recur, and the convenience store at two o'clock in the morning is still the only place he wants to go.
Xu He moved into Shen Heng's rental house with only one bed. She put the medicine on his table, he helped her cover her with a quilt late at night, she fed his dying pothos, and he submitted the story he had been writing for a long time to a magazine.
They began to believe that it would still be bright.
Although they still failed to become normal people and were still trapped in that narrow world, they began to feel that living was not so difficult because of each other's presence.
This is a story about two people who are not going to be okay and slowly become less scared.
