What is an immortal?
One who cultivates the heart, nurtures the nature, perfects the essence, strengthens the spirit, gathers the five energies at the origin, and unites the three origins at the crown, attaining immortality. That is what we call an immortal.
As the saying goes, there are three grades of methods and five ranks of immortals. According to their rank, immortals are divided into Heavenly Immortals, Divine Immortals, Earthly Immortals, Human Immortals, and Ghost Immortals.
What is a Heavenly Immortal?
One who has mastered the Great Way and transcended the mortal to become a sage. In other words, when one's inner and outer elixirs are complete, one has achieved merit in the Way and good deeds among humankind. Once one's merits and deeds are complete, one receives a celestial decree and returns to the grotto-heavens. Such a being is called a Heavenly Immortal.
What is a Ghost Immortal?
If ghosts and spirits meet a practitioner of the Way who can guide them, or encounter other opportunities, such as obtaining and consuming miraculous pills or immortal herbs, they too can become immortals by practicing the proper ways of breathing and cultivation. These are called Ghost Immortals.
This is a story about a Ghost Immortal and a Heavenly Immortal who are a bickering couple.
