Xia Guanyin transmigrates into a fantasy novel, becoming a hereditary servant in a noble household.
Everything seems fine. The masters treat her decently, and she has enough to eat and wear. Xia Guanyin spends two days trying to remember what novel this is, until, on the night of the second day, it is her turn to deliver the weekly tonic.
It's a bowl of blood.
Xia Guanyin goes pale. It all comes back to her.
This is a dark cultivation novel. The ordinary-born male lead is discovered as a child to possess jade bones. A local noble family murders his mother, steals him away, and locks him in a lightless underground dungeon for more than a decade.
During those years, the poison in his eyes blinds him, and his legs atrophy until he can no longer walk. Once he finally sees daylight, the first thing he does is slaughter that family. Even their dogs are suspected of having drunk his blood, so he doesn't spare a single hair on any of them.
Back then, she was so moved that she cried. Now that she remembers, she cries from fear.

The first time Xia Guanyin sees Jade Bones, the pale-skinned youth kneels in a corner, a thin veil covering his eyes. When he hears her voice, his icy fingertips touch her face.
Xia Guanyin never expected Jade Bones to be so gentle. But when she says she has to leave, he grips her wrist so tightly that it hurts.
"All right," he says, his voice like a dream. "Will you come again tomorrow?"
"I might not have time tomorrow. I'm sorry."
"That's okay. Will you still come see me again? Will you come back?" His grip on her hand grows tighter and tighter. "I'll wait for you forever, Guanyin."
She doesn't know that the boy trapped in the dungeon believes she's a deity.
Later, Xia Guanyin thinks she did nothing at all.
But Jade Bones gets out. He kills everyone, leaving only her alive.
Along the way, Xia Guanyin helps him recover from his old injuries and cure his eyes. He repeatedly tries to make her drink his blood, making her his only source of comfort. His possessiveness and extreme love nearly consume her.
Xia Guanyin can't take it anymore. On a bright, sunny day, she tells him they have to go their separate ways.
"Jade Bones, you're well again now. It's time for us to part. I hope things go well for you from now on. Goodbye."

How many days of darkness has she seen since then? The sound she hears most often is the rattle of chains.
She often hears the youth weeping in unbearable sorrow beside her.
He asks her, "How could you abandon me?" "How could you be so cruel?"
