After My Archrival Fell

Ji Chongxuan had a fated rival from the moment he was born: Gu Xihe.

When he was seven, he stood beside his Demon Lord father to watch the First Immortal Sect’s sacrificial ceremony. His father pointed to the solemn, dignified Gu Xihe, a boy his own age, and told him, "That is your fated rival."

Ji Chongxuan scoffed. "I’ll always be on top, and he’ll be beneath me."

For hundreds of years, Ji Chongxuan had treated Gu Xihe as his goal. Every year he challenged him, brimming with fighting spirit. Their abilities were evenly matched, and neither could gain the upper hand.

Then the Immortal Sects clashed with the demon clans. The demons suffered a crushing defeat, and Gu Xihe sealed Ji Chongxuan away with his own hands.

As the thousand-year mark approached, Ji Chongxuan broke through the seal and returned to the world.

The first thing he did was seek revenge on Gu Xihe.

But to his surprise, Gu Xihe, the radiant and untouchable Immortal Lord, had suffered a shattered core. He had fallen and become a cripple on the verge of death.

Ji Chongxuan could hardly believe it. Looking down at him from on high, he said, "So this is how things have turned out for you."

Gu Xihe had fallen overnight from being the Immortal Sects’ prized prodigy. His friends and family betrayed him, his teachers and companions turned against him, his body was ravaged by illness, and his death was near.

He thought his rival, whom he had not seen for a thousand years, had come to mock him and give him a quick death. Instead, the first thing the man did was beat the insignificant men surrounding him and interrogating him to a bloody pulp.

Before Gu Xihe could get over his shock, the man did something even more astonishing: he hoisted him over his shoulder and carried him back to the demon clans.

"The Immortal Sects have no place for you. The demon clans have plenty of room, and as it happens, I’m still missing a queen."
