One rainy night, a little kid rescued a top killer from the Black Organization.

Matsuda Tsuru’s father was a boxer and his older brother was a bomb disposal officer. He didn’t inherit the family’s upright genes, though, and instead became the concertmaster of an orchestra.

He’d known since childhood that he was different from everyone else.

Because he could see speech bubbles appearing over the people around him. Yes, really.

In a rainy alley, while desperately trying to escape a crowd of fans, he saw a speech bubble suddenly appear.

[Please help this poor overworked salaryman by giving him some medicine.]

Huh?! But this salaryman has a gun. Did he get so fed up with work that he shot his boss?

Facing the look that said, “Come any closer and I’ll kill you,” Matsuda Tsuru turned around, deeply conflicted, and went to buy medicine.

He could call the police after saving him. He had to stay alive if he wanted to serve his prison sentence :)

After returning to the Organization, Gin began searching for that pretty little kid.

Day one: Boxer father, police officer brother. Dangerous!

Day two: His violin sounds pretty good.

Day three: The kid’s practically glowing during his performance. Never mind, there are police around.

Day four: Seeing him surrounded again, the top killer stepped in to help him shake off his crazed fans, only to receive a good-person card.

He didn’t recognize me?!

On day N, Vodka wondered aloud while holding a whole box of albums he’d bought in a rush. Since when did Big Brother like listening to music?

After Matsuda Tsuru and Gin got together, Tsuru saw the stack of his own merchandise in his boyfriend’s room, along with a signed message reserved exclusively for the top-ranked fan. He couldn’t help being surprised.

“GinTsuru is you?!”

Gin’s a softer version here. He helps the police academy crew, and there’ll be subtle romantic hints involving the older-brother group, but they won’t feature much in the main story.

My own timeline, so please don’t nitpick too much.

Suzuki Chika thinks his childhood friends are acting strange.

Including, but not limited to:

Climbing over the police academy wall late at night to see him, then immediately pulling him into two suffocating bear hugs;

Throwing tantrums and rolling on the floor to stop him from wearing black;

Turning their once-every-three-days phone marathons into conversations so long they now have to call every night.

The Bomb Squad duo’s two star officers are reborn in their police academy days and start by getting into a fight.

Well, mostly Matsuda Jinpei pummels away with his big fists while Hagiwara Kenji takes the hits.

Afterward, they both remember their childhood friend, as bright as a little sun. After they died, he never smiled again. He spent every day tracking down the culprit, putting up a reward, getting the bare minimum of sleep, and rushing out to search for the culprit again.

For decades, without a break.

The two ghosts, who died young, stayed by his side, watching their childhood friend remain trapped by the two explosions, unable to move on.

At last, he caught the culprit, but he too remained forever inside the third firework.

Seeing their childhood friend waiting for their reunion in death, his face relieved, they felt the agony of heartbreak all over again.

But this time, there’s still time to change everything.
