After We Voluntarily Swapped Our Best Friends' Marriages

Rong Yue and her close friend Du Qiuli married into the Marquis of Wu'an's household together.

Rong Yue married the heir, Sheng Yangming.

Du Qiuli became the second wife of Sheng Yangming's fourth uncle.

Ever since the engagement, Du Qiuli had cried six times.

"That Sheng Xuan is cruel and vicious, and he brings death to his wives. I'll be dead within three days of marrying him."

On the wedding day, Du Qiuli cried again, heading to her doom as if marching to the execution ground.

Just before the two women were to enter their bridal chambers, Rong Yue couldn't bear it. She secretly switched their veils and went in Du Qiuli's place to become Sheng Xuan's second wife.

Sheng Xuan, the fourth uncle of Sheng Yangming, held the high office of Minister of Justice and oversaw countless tortures. Everyone feared him.

Rong Yue feared him too.

Before he could lift her veil, Rong Yue gripped the scale pole to stop him. Trembling, she said, "I'm shy. Let's consummate the marriage with my face covered."

Sheng Xuan remained unmoved.

He was born under an ominous star, bringing misfortune to relatives and friends. He had few family ties and no interest in delicate women who wept and fussed.

But who could have guessed that the new bride, leaning back on the wedding bed with trembling shoulders, would take the scale pole in his hand and slip its end into the loop of her sash, pulling open her red wedding robe?

A breathtaking sight in all its springtime splendor.

A vein throbbed on Sheng Xuan's forehead.

This wasn't Du Qiuli.
