Synopsis
A heroine who starts out timid and oppressed, then becomes a divorce lawyer × a proud, devoted general.
My new novel, The Tyrannical General's Little Cook, is currently updating. It features a domineering romance. Please add it to your collection!
Jiang Yun Zhen, the daughter of a fifth-rank official in the capital, is sold by her parents to the Duke's residence to bring good fortune. A month later, she is widowed.
Her mother-in-law calls her a husband-killer and splashes her with talisman water in public to drive away evil spirits.
Her parents constantly demand money from her, treating her like an inexhaustible source of blood.
When she tries to refuse, her mother drugs her and hands her over to another man.
At last, she snaps.
To fight a world that devours people, she needs a sword she can wield.
The fourth young master, a powerful figure at court, is cold and arrogant. He keeps provoking her, yet has left damning evidence in her hands.
You came to me yourself. Don't blame me.
She steps forward. "Fourth Brother is clever. You must know what I want."
He remains calm and gives a faint smile. "Sister-in-law, whatever you say."
At first, she only wants to use him to escape her parents' control.
Later, she comes up with an even bolder scheme.
If she wants to tear apart the Duke's family's respectable facade, what could be more thrilling than seducing the most promising young master in the household?
He sees right through her intentions,
yet willingly becomes the blade in her hand, determined to be the most unconventional couple in the world with her.
She drives her parents out of the capital, fights her mother-in-law, leaves the residence to make a life for herself, and stands in court to help women divorce.
The whole capital calls her a shameless temptress, but she doesn't care.
The handsome general who once held a sharp sword to her throat doesn't even stop to wipe the blood from his face. He pulls her into a tight embrace and speaks with gentle resolve:
"Don't be afraid. I'll be the sharpest sword in your hand."
Reader's notes:
1. The heroine is rather weak early on. After being drugged, she escapes through her own intelligence. She undergoes a complete transformation by Chapter 10, and has a career storyline.
2. Both are sexually inexperienced; one-on-one romance; happy ending.
3. The heroine and her former husband's wedding rites were incomplete, so their marriage is legally invalid. Her former husband has been dead for over a year when the leads meet at the residence.
Blurb for The Tyrannical General's Little Cook:
A tenacious, money-loving little cook × a proud, picky general.
A tenacious, money-loving little cook × a proud, picky general.
Lin Mo Chu, the daughter of an official, is exiled to Lingnan and forced into servitude. She barely survives the journey.
To save enough money to buy her freedom, she does everything she can to get a job as a cook in the military camp.
The general has a strange temper, but he's incredibly generous with rewards.
She cooks a pot of porridge, and he gives her one tael of silver. She rubs his stomach, and he gives her twenty taels.
Who could turn down a job this good?
While happily counting her money, she suddenly realizes the general is her mortal enemy.
She is so scared she can't sleep all night, but he promotes her to be his personal maid.
He clearly hasn't recognized her.
The general claims to hate her cooking, yet sneaks into the kitchen at night and eats every last bite straight from the pot.
When she goes up the mountain to gather wild vegetables and doesn't return for half a day, he sends his entire army to search the mountain.
The moment he finds her, he rushes over with his hair disheveled and holds her tightly. His frenzied, blazing heartbeat almost melts her.
Her hands against his chest slowly curl into fists.
She cannot let go of her family's grudge. She must not become attached to what does not belong to her.
When she is close to saving enough money to buy her freedom and leave, the general suddenly tells her that the emperor has ordered young women to be selected for palace service.
She is so terrified that her body turns cold and her legs go weak; she can barely stand.
His dark eyes glimmer beneath his thick brows as he bends to whisper in her ear, "If you don't want to go into the palace, I can help you."
His arms are strong and warm, and his lips are as soft as clouds, yet for some reason she shivers.
"Better to stay by my side than serve an old man in the palace. I'll take good care of you."
Only later does she learn that everything was a trap he had laid, step by step.
Notes:
1. One-on-one romance; both are sexually inexperienced; happy ending.
2. All the dishes mentioned really exist.
