When Kui Yue started his first year of high school, he noticed Jiang Qin in his class. He really was a strange person.
Jiang Qin wore a mask no matter the weather. He wore it in P.E., while sleeping, and even when eating and drinking, always hiding from others. No one knew what he looked like. Yet Jiang Qin got good grades, so a lot of people thought he was putting on an act.
Once, while chatting with a friend, Kui Yue happened to bring Jiang Qin up. His friend called him a poser, asking why he wore a mask every day just to show off.
Kui Yue smiled. "What if he's actually incredibly handsome? If he took off his mask, you might all get self-conscious."
His words had been careless, but someone else took them to heart. The boys who had crushes on Kui Yue were all bothered by the way he'd defended Jiang Qin, so they found a chance to corner him.
They forcibly took off his mask. When everyone saw his ugly, burn-scarred face, the laughter began, and so did the bullying.
When Kui Yue found out, he felt guilty, believing his careless words had caused it. To make it up to Jiang Qin, he confronted the bullies and used his connections to make sure they were punished severely.
But seeing Jiang Qin all alone, without a single friend, Kui Yue felt he had to take responsibility to the end, so he showed Jiang Qin plenty of kindness and concern. At the very least, Kui Yue wanted to help Jiang Qin have a happy high school life.
Meanwhile, Jiang Qin's love and possessiveness toward Kui Yue grew stronger and stronger. He drove a wedge between Kui Yue and his boyfriend until the two broke up. Kui Yue was heartbroken. He'd only wanted to make up for what he'd done wrong, so why hadn't his boyfriend supported him? He could only go to Jiang Qin in tears and confide in him.
Looking at Kui Yue in his arms, Jiang Qin thought, Kui Yue must like him too. Otherwise, why would he fight with his boyfriend over him?
As the days passed, summer vacation after their second year of high school arrived, and Jiang Qin confessed to Kui Yue.
Kui Yue frowned and rejected him. After all, he didn't love Jiang Qin. He only felt pity and guilt.
But when Kui Yue woke up again, he found himself in a dark basement.
Jiang Qin turned on the light. The harsh white light made his half-disfigured face look like something out of a nightmare.
He held Kui Yue tightly and poured out his love, saying he never wanted to be apart from him for the rest of his life.
