[Strong heroine | A saint's selfish feelings | Younger man]
The demons and the immortal sects have been at odds for centuries, and the undercurrents between them have grown increasingly turbulent.
Chen Xingwei, a rising star among the disciples of the Xuanmen Sect, is given the task of acting as a spy. He goes alone to the demons' Gui Sect, intending to gather inside information for the immortal sects.
But the sect leader, Xiao Xuan, is not what he expected. Rumor has it that she's cold-blooded and murderous, but the truth is quite different.
Though she has a sharp tongue and speaks with cutting sarcasm, and though she seems to harm others, in reality not a single person is hurt. Instead, she keeps bringing homeless people into her sect.
Chen Xingwei, who prides himself on being just, questions himself for the first time.
He doesn't understand why he's making excuses for her, sympathizing with her struggles, or growing curious about her past. Then a rush of affection sweeps over him, shifting a corner of the iceberg and revealing a distorted glimpse: Xiao Xuan's past is connected to the Xuanmen Sect.
Love had already begun to grow wild among the strands of curiosity, flourishing until it cast a deep shade. He wants to bring shade to the person he loves, and hopes the one resting there will return his feelings.
If a saint has selfish feelings, is he still a saint?
No. What if the immortal sects are the ones in the wrong?
Unable to stop himself from empathizing and falling in love, he takes one step at a time from outsider to player in the game.
Then he will stay by her side, help restore justice to the world, and become her sword and shield.
The heroine's perspective: A newcomer arrives at the sect, and Xiao Xuan recognizes at a glance that the other person was sent by the Xuanmen Sect. Killing them would be too boring. She could put them to use instead.
But in the end, she lets them enter her domain and uncover her secrets. When the secrets she'd buried for years finally come to light, her first feeling is relief.
She spent five years laying out the game with her own hands, all for revenge. Xiao Xuan will do anything to get revenge, even give up her life.
She came prepared to die, but then she saw Chen Xingwei's smiling face and faltered. She watched him step by step from outsider to player in the game, and tell her that it was other people who were wrong, not her.
Maybe living on like this wouldn't be so bad?
